Statement of Beliefs

First Baptist Weatherford stands on the following core beliefs based on the foundational truths taught in
the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines. Please
review and acknowledge if you understand and affirm these beliefs. An incomplete understanding of or
disagreement with these core beliefs does not necessarily disqualify you from serving, but it may require
follow-up. If you disagree with any of the following beliefs, please address each topic in the comments
section.

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and
praise. God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom, justice, and mercy. He is
unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and
offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a
cross. He rose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin
and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to
reign as King.

The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in
the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every
Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for
living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He
gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we seek to
live under His control daily.

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve,
were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations.

When Adam and Eve chose not to obey God, they ceased to be what they were made to be and became
distorted images of God. This caused them to fall out of fellowship with God, and fractured all of creation.

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the
penalty for our sin. God raised him from the dead and now, by grace, offers as a free gift eternal life to all who
follow Christ, by faith, as their Lord and Savior. Salvation can be found in Christ alone.

The Church is meant to be the visible body of Christ, sent into the world to glorify God and proclaim the gospel
of Jesus Christ.

The Bible was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the
supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living.
Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error.

Once we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, baptism is a way for us to publicly declare our new
life in Christ. It is also a step of obedience based on God’s commands and allows us to follow the
example of Jesus, who submitted Himself to baptism to “fulfill all righteousness.”
